Many thanks again for the pictures sent. Now I know from you that this book is by Frank Goodrich.

It was it seems reprinted early this year. I am to try and order it. Perhaps  it will show us an evidence or at least a new clue that the author of these "romantic" engravings: J. Champagne is not our Julien Champagne.

Many thanks for your commentary.  Je comprends et écris un peu l'anglais, mais je préfère vous répondre ici en français, pour que ceci soit lu sans difficulté par la majorité des lecteurs.

Je vous réponds par ailleurs (en anglais). Je vous remercie beaucoup pour votre proposition de me faire parvenir une copie d'une gravure de J. Champagne sur Diane de Poitiers, d'autant que ce blog contient un article sur elle.

Si cette gravure est bien de 1879 à peu près, nous pourrons bien vérifier dans ces conditions que le J.
